Virginia Tech rugby players are proud to represent their school and the Hokie nation at the highest level of inter collegiate athletics. They are true student athletes in every sense of the word. Rugby was first played on campus as far back as 1891. Although the team in its current form wasn’t founded until 1968, the team has a rich tradition that all our players are proud of and strive to live up to. Virginia Tech plays rugby in both the fall and spring semesters. In the fall, the fifteens team will compete in the Chesapeake Collegiate Rugby Conference. In the spring, Sevens tryouts will be held in January and a squad will be selected which will play in various tournaments and the Chesapeake Conference Championships. If invited, the Sevens team may also play at the Collegiate Rugby Championships in Philadelphia in June. Those not involved in Sevens will play a series of tournaments and friendly matches throughout the spring.

We train on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights 8-10 pm on the Recreational Sports Fields. To find out more about Virginia Tech Rugby, please contact Club President Matt Ramirez
