2013 Fall Semester Tryouts and Training

Virginia Tech Men's rugby will be holding open tryouts for all new players during the first week of fall semester. These will commence on Tuesday 20th August at 8pm. Those selected for the team will be announced on Saturday 31st August. All new players should arrive early with cleats and mouthguard, wear appropriate clothing and be ready to fill out some paperwork. Previous rugby experience is preferred but not a requirement. A willingness to work hard and be a student athlete is. If you have any questions about tryouts and training then please contact Coach Richards.

Virginia Tech rugby players are proud to represent their school and the Hokie nation at the highest level of inter collegiate athletics. They are true student athletes in every sense of the word. Rugby was first played on campus as far back as 1891. Although the team in its current form wasn't founded until 1968, the team has a rich tradition that all our players are proud of and strive to live up to. We now run two teams, Varsity and Junior Varsity.
Virginia Tech plays rugby in both the fall and spring semesters. In the fall, the Varsity team will compete in the Atlantic Coast Rugby League while the Junior Varsity Team plays in the Cardinal Conference Division 2A league.

In the spring, Sevens tryouts will be held in January and a squad will be selected which will play in the Atlantic Coast Sevens Series and Championships. If invited the Sevens team may play at the Collegiate Rugby Championships in Philadelphia in June. Those not involved in Sevens will play a series of tournaments and friendly matches throughout the spring.

We train on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights 8-10 pm on the Recreational Sports Fields
