Virginia Tech rugby players are proud to represent their school and the Hokie nation at the highest level of inter collegiate athletics. They are true student athletes in every sense of the word. Rugby was first played on campus as far back as 1891. Although the team in its current form wasn't founded until 1968, the team has a rich tradition that all our players are proud of and strive to live up to. We now run two teams, Varsity and Junior Varsity.
Virginia Tech plays rugby in both the fall and spring semesters. In the fall, they will compete in collegiate Seven aside tournaments such as the Atlantic Coast Invitational and then play a series of hard 15 aside games towards the end of the fall semester in preparation for the spring league schedule. The Junior Varsity side will play a full season of friendlies in the fall.
In the spring, Virginia Tech will then compete in the Atlantic Coast Rugby League. The winners of the league will go on to play in the round of Sixteen at the USA Rugby national championships.
